The problem is with one of the printers attached to the XP computer, an Epson R For some unknown reason both the 64 bit Vista and standard Vista computers refuse to connect to the Epson.
The only additional information from the connect attempt by the 64 bit computer is an error message telling me that the server XP based does not have the proper driver for the Epson. If I connect the Epson directly to the 64 bit computer it seems that all the computers can use it.
What do I have to do to be able to have the Epson attached to the XP computer and accessible by the others????? I suggest you perform the following steps to troubleshoot the issue. Please select a correct driver from the list. Posted 23 October - PM. Jacee Malware Expert Expert posts. Posted 08 August - PM. Obcvic New Member Member 1 posts. There is another workable solution which also requires taking your Vista notebook to the printer you want to hit at the XP machine and plug in the USB cord to trigger the driver install I had to do it twice due to errors and hiccups installing then go ahead and install it as a network printer as the article linked above also states.
But the article link above I think leaves out the critical steps of the plugging in the printer to trigger the printer driver install on the Vista machine. Once the driver is properly in, you can indeed set up the printer as a network printer and it will set up a virtual USB in Vista, but the HP solution is better because it allows you to read the online status of the printer once it is installed.
The other way will work and it prints but the HP solution with the adding of the local port is more elegant in it's operation. Posted 15 October - PM. May God bless you for your help. Posted 06 December - PM. Trekker New Member Member 1 posts. Hi everyone! I'm trying to connect my new laptop with Vista to share the printer. I followed the steps up untill step 7.
But when I just click on the Trekker port and select it, it allows it but then it will not work when I send docs to it. I also changed the name of my shared printer to Brother HL just in case that might have been it, but it still doesn't print. Any idea's? Posted 12 December - PM. Posted 10 April - PM. Canberra New Member Member 2 posts. Andy, I went through your procedure and it went well until step 7 when I hit OK it came back with the following: "insufficient space in server" and it failed.
Any suggestions?
