Watch tv windows media center without tv tuner

I am not sure exactly what it is called or how it is supposed to work, but I am not overly hopeful about the possibility of watching and recording programming using Win But from what i found there was no way to bring up live OTA TV or even channels from a cable or satellite box no on screen guide or anything. My Dell Dimension Desktop which has a TV tuner doesnt even show any sign of it even having a TV tuner i dont see it in device manager or anywhere i havent really used my TV tuner in a while with windows 7 but it would be nice to be able if i ever wanted to!

The movies and TV software in Windows 10 just says about watching TV shows that you purchase from Store the built in app that you can purchase apps, games, music, movie and TV shows in windows.

I was suprised to hear that they no longer are providing updates for the on screen guide for windows media center. They arent giving us any time to find an alternative.

UPDATE: while attempting to search and find further information about the program guide updates for WMC - I found a post in this same Forum that the program guide is now being updated from a different provider.

To get the updated guide you must rerun setup. I feel your pain! I was wondering why my guides were only a for a few days but I just checked and i have guide info through the 31st of July now. Anyway, because of this, I started looking at alternatives just in case, even though I know I could still do manual recordings.

I went to update my signal and now it won't even pick up 3 of the 5 local stations I watch. I did a search and found a program called Kodi. Apparently it used to be XBMC. It turns out this is a streaming site as far as I know but has almost channels to choose from. I still prefer to record shows and watch them whenever the eff I want to and haven't figured out or looked into whether or not I can record anything with this software.

Here is the link I used to install it the guy is hilarious but if you get offended easily you might want to choose a different one because he cusses a few times, okay a lot.

I will say I have gotten used to going to each Networks websites and watching full episodes for whatever shows I missed and it isn't that bad. Still, I refuse to buy Tivo just to get a guide that should be available to you in the first place or subscribe to Cable or anything for that matter!

Remember VHS? Yeah, like that only with today' technologies. Cable boxes and satellite receivers can include channels that are either standard or high definition. In Media Center, a digital high-definition signal that is transmitted through one of these boxes will be converted to an analog standard-definition signal.

Connect the cable from the cable source wall jack to the cable input jack on the cable box or satellite receiver. If you have two cable boxes or two satellite receivers that you want to use with Media Center, you can use a splitter to divide the TV signal from the wall jack to the boxes. Each cable box or satellite receiver must have a TV signal connected to the cable input jack. Connect an IR blaster to your computer and your set-top box.

For more information, see the documentation that came with your IR blaster. Follow the steps to connect a TV signal, depending on the type of tuner or tuners that the cable is connected to, as well as the type of programming to which you subscribe.

If you have a digital cable service from your local cable provider, and you own a specially certified PC known as a Digital Cable Ready computer, you may be able to watch and record digital cable TV in Media Center. To do this you'll need a couple things: a digital cable tuner , which is a device that comes with most Digital Cable Ready computers, and a CableCARD , which is a device that must be inserted into your digital cable tuner to allow it to receive digital cable. A CableCARD serves as a replacement for a digital set-top box, and can only be obtained from a participating digital cable provider.

With the proper CableCARD inserted into a compatible digital cable tuner, you can watch digital cable channels both standard and high definition that are available by subscription from your cable provider. It's recommended that you work with a cable technician from your service provider to set up a digital cable tuner and signal. Many of the steps below should be performed by them. If you have a Digital Cable Ready computer, follow the instructions from your computer manufacturer to set up your digital cable tuner.

You'll need these numbers for the activation process in step 7. This step is usually performed by a technician from your digital cable provider. Connect the cable from the cable source wall jack to the TV-IN jack on the digital cable tuner.

Contact your service provider to pair your CableCARD with the digital cable tuner—this will activate both so you can receive digital cable content. You will be required to provide the following information to your service provider:.

This number will be reported in Windows Media Center on the Call your cable company page. Example: Host ID. Data ID. Example: NGTA OneDrive Windows 7 and 8. Copy and Paste Between Android and Windows. Protect Windows 10 From Internet Explorer. Mozilla Fights Double Standard. Connect to a Hidden Wi-Fi Network. Change the Size of the Touch Keyboard.

Note A hybrid TV tuner is a TV tuner that can be configured to receive either an analog signal or a digital signal.
