A message queue will copy the data into the allocated buffer space of the queue whereas a memory mapped file only maps a pointer to the same block of memory.
For large amounts of data this means a lot of copying for a message queue. Thats said, you would possible still use a message queue to indicate that data is waiting in the mem-mapped file.
